DEAR GCET FRIENDS

25th Global Conference on Environmental Taxation
18 – 20 September 2024
Stellenbosch, South Africa
Towards a just energy transition – perspectives from the North and South
Stellenbosch Business School proudly invites you to the landmark 25th assembly of the GCET, to be held for the first time on the African continent. The GCET provides an ideal global platform to foster participatory and inclusive climate change dialogue between the Global North and South, especially at a time when, as the IPCC 2022 report notes, “humanity is at a crossroads”. The use of environmental taxation and other market-based instruments is critical in achieving a just energy transition, particularly in development contexts.
A selection of the best contributions will again be published in the prominent Critical issues in environmental taxation from Edward Elgar publishers.
We look forward to welcoming you to the picturesque Cape Winelands!
Prof Lee-Ann Steenkamp
Conference Chair
