The 25th Global Conference on Environmental Taxation (GCET25) takes place 18–20 September 2024 at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS), near Cape Town, South Africa. Hosted by Stellenbosch University Business School, GCET25 convenes global experts to advance practical solutions for climate action through environmental taxation and market-based instruments.

Theme: Towards a Just Energy Transition
Under the banner “Towards a just energy transition – perspectives from the North and South”, GCET25 arrives on the African continent for the first time. The programme bridges Global North–South dialogue, focusing on equitable carbon pricing, revenue recycling, industrial competitiveness, and social protection—at a moment when, as the IPCC reminds us, “humanity is at a crossroads.”
Why GCET Matters

- Policy to practice: Sessions translate research into deployable tools for ministries, cities, utilities, and businesses.
- Networking: Build partnerships for pilots, publications, and regional implementation labs.
